This is a small house designed for contemplation or meditation at a Buddhist
hermitage, Nissarana Wanya, Meethirigala. Keeping in line with the austerities
practiced by the monks the cell has been designed with minimum play of
space, light and texture, using the basic materials of building such as
clay, timber etc.
The concept of the design set the mood for the practice of Serenity and Insight meditation with its separate covered area for walking meditation to harmonize with the tranquility of its natural surroundings.
It consist of a open verandah, a large bed room, attached toilet, built in meditation seats facing different angles to give the needed sense of shelter from both sun and rain.
